The seasonal argument a fixed roof can't make
A folding-arm awning turns a baking north- or west-facing patio back into a usable room through a Western Cape summer, then retracts to let the low winter sun through when it's welcome rather than blocking it year-round. No posts means no interrupted view and no clutter around a braai area — the fabric and arms disappear into a cassette when you're not using it.
Motor plus wind sensor is the responsible spec, wherever you are
An awning caught open in a gust can be destroyed, and the province's exposure varies by region rather than by suburb name. On the Peninsula and the Helderberg's coast-facing stands, the Cape Doctor's summer south-easter is the wind to design for. In the Winelands, it's the Berg wind arriving from the opposite direction in the shoulder seasons. On the Garden Route, wind matters less than the region's high, evenly-spread rainfall — an awning is a shade product there, not a rain product, and we're honest about that distinction upfront.
An awning is a shade product, not a rain product — light drizzle at a pitch, never storm rain or standing water, wherever it's fitted.

Folding-arm awning pricing across the province
Awning cost tracks the area covered, which is width times projection. Hand-operated and installed, allow R3,500 up to R5,500 for each square metre; with a motor, R5,500 up to R7,500. A cassette, a wind sensor and the longer arms all sit high in both spans.
Very narrow awnings carry a floor price, since the arms, the cassette and the structural bolts hardly reduce. Where it hangs is checked on site, and the figure for your terrace comes after the free measure, in writing.
